Pauma Vista is a small, family-owned vineyard in Valley Center, personally farmed by Pete and Vicki Montgomery, who named it for their shared initials and its perch above Pauma Valley. Set at just under 2,000 feet, the estate benefits from warm days and cool coastal-breeze nights, conditions that show up in their Spanish and Rhône varietals — Tempranillo, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Albariño, several of them county-fair medal winners. Expect an intimate, personal visit rather than a big commercial tasting room: tastings are served on the vineyard patio with the owners’ hands-on hospitality, and you’ll often be talking wine directly with the people who grew and made it.
