Beach House Winery

Beach House Winery is a family-owned estate winery on the Sleeping Indian ridgeline in Oceanside's South Morro Hills — the first vineyard planted in the San Luis Rey Valley, and the only tasting room on the North County coast where you look west over estate vines to the Pacific. The Murrays named the vineyard Vigna al Mare, "vineyard at the sea," and it earns the name: the tasting patio faces the ocean and the canyons, and the hour before sunset is the reason to come.

George and Kim Murray started as hobby winemakers in 1998, studied viticulture and enology at UC Davis, and converted a hillside avocado grove into vines — the 257 avocado trees that came out went back into the soil as compost. Their son Steven, who has worked the land since childhood, is the next generation. The wines are estate-grown and made for a patio rather than a cellar: reds built for the view, whites for warm afternoons, and the San Luis Rey AVA — approved in 2024, with Beach House as its founding vineyard — now appearing on the label.

The atmosphere is the point. Beach House brings coastal San Diego's beach culture inland to wine country: casual, family-friendly, unpretentious, with room for groups. Private tastings, group visits, and special events are hosted on the estate; contact the winery directly for availability. Weekend hours — check this listing before you drive out — and plan on about 15 minutes inland from the Oceanside pier via Highway 76.

Pair it with the coastal route (Carruth Cellars' Oceanside tasting room and Solterra in Leucadia are the natural next stops) or with the Fallbrook wineries a few miles east, which share the San Luis Rey appellation.
