About The Winery
Hawk Watch Winery is a boutique hilltop winery on Chihuahua Valley Road in Warner Springs, in the mountains of northeast San Diego County. The tasting room sits above a multi-variety vineyard with wide views across the backcountry, and the winery takes its name from the raptors that are a regular sight overhead. Open since 2008, it has picked up a long list of competition medals over the years, including an international gold for its Zinfandel.
What to expect: weekend-only tastings in a small, friendly room with an outdoor patio and garden, and knowledgeable owners who are happy to talk through the wines. Warner Springs is about 90 minutes from downtown San Diego, so most visitors make a day of it along Highway 79.
Nearby: Hawk Watch is one of a handful of wineries around Warner Springs, with La Serenissima and Emerald Creek Winery along Highway 79 and Sierra Roble close by. Our guide to San Diego wine country by region covers the backcountry, and the Wine Tasting Day Trip Builder will map the route.
