Bar Story
Tucked into a charming Mission Hills storefront at 1920 Fort Stockton Drive, Wolf in the Woods is one of San Diego's most beloved neighborhood wine bars — intimate, soulful, and impossible to leave early. Proprietor Johnny Rivera, a San Diego-born restaurateur, designed the space around a unique blending of Native American, European, and Hispanic aesthetics — creating a warm New Mexican-inspired interior where candlelight, small plates, and carefully curated wines invite lingering conversations. The wine list focuses on small-batch, artisanal Old and New World producers handpicked for character and complexity. The culinary program is equally considered — dishes like Sweet Corn & Piñon Soup, Harissa Octopus, and Duck & Three Sisters reflect the same multi-cultural spirit as the décor. A sommelier is on hand nightly to guide guests through the eclectic selections. Open Tuesday through Saturday, reservations accepted for Fridays and Saturdays by calling Tuesday or Wednesday between noon and 3pm. One of San Diego's most authentic wine bar experiences.
