Barrel 1 Winery

Barrel 1 Winery is a family-owned vineyard and tasting room on Magnolia Avenue in Ramona, in the Ramona Valley AVA. The tasting room opened in April 2015 after years of waiting for the vines to mature and the first wines to age in barrel. It is centered on the Cassidy Estate, which has the feel of a Tuscan-style ranch in the California countryside.

What to expect: estate wines that the family credits to Ramona's mix of strong sun, artesian well water, volcanic soil and steady wind. The lineup has included an award-winning Black Widow Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday from noon to 6 pm, and it is one of the closest wineries to downtown Ramona, which makes it an easy first or last stop of the day.
