Chuparosa Vineyards is a boutique dog-friendly winery on Gem Lane in Ramona, producing small-batch estate wines in a relaxed, welcoming setting that reflects the genuine community spirit of Ramona Valley wine country. The name Chuparosa — Spanish for hummingbird — hints at the natural environment surrounding the vineyard.
Chuparosa is a small, family-run estate winery in the Ramona Valley, producing 100% estate-grown, -produced, and -bottled wines since 2004. The tasting room overlooks the north block of vines and is open Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm. Expect a warm, personal welcome from owners Andy and Carolyn, who are known for greeting guests with “there are no rules here” and pouring with genuine, unpretentious hospitality. The lineup stands out: a crisp Albariño, bold reds like Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc, a red blend, plus estate ports and estate-pressed olive oil. A signature treat is the homemade sourdough bread, often baked fresh by Carolyn and served with the olive oil. Seating is on a cozy outdoor patio (one large table plus a few smaller ones). Ramona wineries don’t sell food, so bring a picnic, and pack a light layer. The entrance is easy to miss — watch for the small roadside sign. Free parking on-site.
